The town of Glenville was seeking to revitalize the Freeman’s Bridge Road corridor as an attractive gateway into the Glenville community as it transitions from an industrial past to a more contemporary mixed-use commercial area.
The goal of this effort was to create a visually compelling gateway to welcome people as they cross the bridge from neighboring Schenectady, providing safe pedestrian amenities of sidewalks and paths for all users, and incorporating sustainable ecological features. Working with Creighton Manning Engineers, the project team developed proposed streetscape enhancements which incorporated green infrastructure stormwater management, sidewalks, a new crosswalk, and a multi-use path connecting the neighborhood to the adjacent Hudson-Mohawk Bike-Hike Trail. The new roadway design included over one-half mile of proposed pedestrian improvements. In addition to the proposed streetscape enhancements, the project team conducted an analysis of the existing zoning, and made recommendations to transition the zoning to more mixed-use commercial setting which would better serve the surrounding neighborhoods.
