Partnering with the Hudson Highlands Land Trust, the Cornwall and Blooming Grove Conservation Advisory Councils, and the Orange County Land Trust with grant funding through the Hudson River Estuary Program of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Behan Planning and Design in collaboration with Upstate GIS supported the development of these Natural Heritage Projects in the creation of a town-wide open space index for each respective township. The Natural Heritage Project was a two-year project resulting in an open space index that sets forth conservation priorities for each town including the villages that will help guide municipal planning and protection of water resources, farmland, wildlife habitat, scenic beauty, and recreational areas.
