By establishing lasting relationships with communities large and small, urban and rural, we help them develop creative and implementable solutions with vision.
We conduct green infrastructure planning and design at many scales, working within interconnected systems to foster ecological and economic well being and quality of life.
Our integrated planning and design practice allows us to bring big picture ideas to the ground, making great places a reality with close attention to both site detail and overall intent.
EXPERIENCE Behan Planning and Design's practice is built upon three primary areas of expertise which we feel are essential to building vibrant and healthy communities. These areas of practice are Community Planning, Green Infrastructure and Landscape Architecture.
Community Planning is the art and science of problem solving in preparation for the future. Just as families save money to send their children to college and develop retirement plans, communities must also plan ahead for their future growth and long-term needs. Behan Planning and Design has worked with communities large and small, urban and rural, throughout New York State and New England to help them prepare for growth and protect the things they care about.
Planning and design of our green infrastructure resources recognizes these as the interconnected ecosystem of forests, rivers, farms, parks, wetlands and other natural and naturalized man-made features that provide our communities with clean air, water and food. These nature-based systems sustain our environmental health, economy and quality of life. Just as we need to maintain the built infrastructure of our roads, utilities and buildings—our green infrastructure network must also be protected and maintained and enhanced through creative design to keep a balanced system.
Our integrated approach to design and planning allows us to bring big picture ideas to the ground through landscape architecture--making great places a reality--with close attention to both site detail and to overall intent. Our approach to the landscape architectural design process involves three essential components: thoughtful analysis of site and setting, evocative listening to the vision of our client, and a creative transformation of ideas, materials, and systems into improved landscapes. We work hard to integrate the input of our clients and client communities into the process, so that the places we design are loved and adopted by the people who call them home.
